Claire’s voice had been artificially generated from public interviews, shareholder calls, conference speeches, and private company recordings.
Daniel’s and Richard’s voices were partly authentic.
Their words had been extracted from unrelated conversations and rearranged.
The recording was designed to become evidence if the fraud was discovered.
Claire would appear to be the architect.
Daniel could present himself as the husband who followed his powerful wife’s instructions.
Richard would become the concerned uncle who attempted to stop her.
Every person had an escape route.
Except Claire.
The source files included a speech she gave at her father’s memorial.
Richard had taken her grief and used it to build a synthetic confession.
Claire sat in Daniel’s office, unable to speak.
Evelyn lowered the volume.
“We can prove manipulation.”
“I want to know who created it.”
A metadata fragment pointed toward Adrian Voss, a former Bennett Systems engineer fired for copying proprietary voice-generation software.
Richard had led the internal investigation into Adrian.
He knew exactly what the engineer possessed.
Melissa admitted she sent Adrian the recordings Richard requested.
“Did she know whose voice he was building?” Claire asked.
“Yes.”
The answer hurt, but Claire no longer expected innocence from people who had benefited from her silence.
Adrian’s original project server might still contain the synthetic model, edit history, and payment records.
Melissa possessed an access code.
The physical security token remained inside Daniel’s office.
They found it beneath the second phone.
Evelyn connected the token through a protected forensic system.
A server directory appeared.
The Claire model was only one folder.
Others contained forged documents, altered emails, and false board reports.
Richard and Daniel had built an entire version of reality in which Claire committed their crimes.
The conspiracy did not merely steal money.
