Chapter 11 - MY MISTAKE WITH THE VIDEOI sent the camera footage to the family group chat.

All of it.

I should not have.

The police officer had already told us:

“Keep the original account intact and don’t circulate clips yet.”

I lasted six hours.

My older sister texted:

Mom says Maya staged the kitchen to make her look abusive.

I saw red.

I downloaded three clips.

Sent them to:

My sister.

Two cousins.

My uncle.

Mom.

With one message:

Watch your mother take Maya’s phone and force her back to the sink. Tell me again she staged it.

Within an hour, relatives had forwarded the clips.

Guests saw them before formal interviews.

One posted a still image privately.

Someone leaked it to a neighborhood Facebook group.

My action did not destroy the evidence.

The original cloud files had metadata and were preserved.

But I contaminated the witness environment.

Now every guest had seen angles they had not personally observed before detectives interviewed them.

A defense attorney could ask:

“Are you remembering what you personally saw or what Alex later sent you?”

Fair question.

I told police myself.

Officer Price sighed.

“Please stop helping.”

I said:

“I know.”

“No, Mr. Whitmore. You know now.”

Correct.

I apologized to Maya.

She said:

“I understand why.”

Not:

May you like

It was fine.

Different.
