No attempt to burn Chloe.
No financial conspiracy.
No hidden inheritance.

Evelyn had promised twenty socially important people she would host a prestigious luncheon in our condo.
Maya said no.
I failed to support that no clearly enough early on.
Mom invited everyone anyway.
Then Maya injured both hands.
Mom could have canceled.
She could have used the hired servers.
Instead she canceled them.
Why?
Part money.
Mostly pride.
She believed Maya had already “made her look foolish” by objecting to the party.
If Mom canceled because Maya was injured, Maya’s boundary would win.
So Evelyn reframed the situation.
Maya could still help.
Chloe could help.
The family would demonstrate hospitality.
When Maya resisted, Mom treated resistance as insubordination.
She used the emergency key.
She brought guests in.
Took Maya’s phone away when she tried to call me.
Put Chloe on a stool.
Withheld lunch until “work” was finished.
Dismissed medical restrictions.
Used hot water despite Maya’s objections.
Grabbed Maya’s wrist and physically redirected her toward the sink.
Not because Evelyn wanted to hospitalize anyone.
Because she believed preserving authority and avoiding humiliation justified forcing compliance for two hours.
