She brought flowers.
Maya would not let her inside.
They spoke in the lobby.
Carol said:

Maya answered:
“Yes.”
Carol started crying.
Maya did not rescue her from that either.
Another guest wrote:
I believed Evelyn when she told us you wanted to host. When I realized you did not, I still stayed because I did not want to make a scene. I am sorry.
That apology mattered.
Not:
I didn’t know.
But:
I knew enough eventually and still prioritized comfort.
Patricia, the woman who had heard Maya refuse, cooperated fully with investigators.
She told Maya:

Maya said:
