Chapter 15 - THE HOT WATERWhat was in the pot?
Water.
Not chemicals.
Not oil.
No hidden poison.
Mom had been blanching green beans and warming serving dishes.
Video showed the pot boiling on the stove minutes before she carried it to the sink.
By the time she poured part of it into the basin, no thermometer measured temperature.
Investigators refused to claim an exact number.
Good.
Maya said:
“It was steaming heavily and too hot for me to put my hands in.”
Reasonable.
Mom said she mixed it with cooler tap water to sanitize dishes.
Video showed her turning on the cold tap afterward.
Also true.
Then why did Maya pull away?
Because even warm water was medically inappropriate for sutured hands.
Why did Mom keep insisting?
Her answer:
“Maya was exaggerating the injury.”

Not misunderstanding.
Judgment.
Evelyn decided the doctor’s restrictions were excessive.
