He had authorized none.
The earliest use occurred while he was still a resident. Anna had created one confidential folder under his credentials to hide Riverton evidence.
Catherine found the access route.
She expanded it.
“Anna opened the door,” Catherine said during interrogation. “I kept using it because Halcyon never audited young physicians.”
“You attached my name to Elena’s medication,” Marcus replied.
“I used it to keep Graham’s doctors from taking over her treatment.”
“You continued drugs she did not want.”
“She would have been transferred if the chart showed recovery.”
“So you preserved her by keeping her sick enough to remain hidden.”
Catherine looked away.
“Yes.”
The confession did not simplify the choice.
Halcyon’s security teams had searched for Elena for years. A recovered email proved Graham intended to move her into a military rehabilitation contract if she became physically stable.
Catherine prevented that.
She also denied Elena the chance to accept risk.
Investigators examined the recording found in Lily’s bunny.
The second voice was not Caroline.
Acoustic analysis showed subtle differences between the twins’ breathing and vowel patterns. Catherine had used Caroline’s name and cloned nursing badge while speaking with Anna.
Anna eventually discovered the substitution.
A later note read:
CATHERINE IS USING CAROLINE’S RECORDS. CAROLINE KNOWS HER SISTER LIVES, BUT NOT EVERYTHING SHE HAS DONE.
Caroline still faced difficult questions.

“You never asked?”
“Catherine said asking would endanger her.”
Caroline had built a life around being afraid of one more fact.

The identity problem ran deeper.
Catherine Hale had been legally declared dead after the warehouse fire. Caroline’s records were used for nursing employment, property leases, vehicle registrations, and patient transfers.
Then a Halcyon administrator altered the state database.
Catherine became the legal Caroline Hale.
The real Caroline was marked deceased.
Marcus’s mother had lived twenty-two years under an identity the government now considered inactive.
Her house, insurance, pension, and medical records were vulnerable.
Catherine’s attorney argued that arresting her would also invalidate Caroline’s life because institutions could not separate identical biometric profiles.
Nora replied:
“Then institutions will learn.”
A court issued temporary orders preserving both women’s current legal existence while records were corrected.
Catherine became Catherine Miriam Hale.
Caroline remained Caroline Ruth Hale.
No twin received ownership of the shared history.
Employment records were reviewed individually.
Catherine’s nursing work under Caroline’s license could not become Caroline’s misconduct automatically.
Caroline could not claim Catherine’s wages or protective actions.
The voice recording no longer implicated the wrong sister.
The badge history still required accountability from both.
Emily watched part of the hearing after requesting access.
“Which one is my family?” she asked her advocate.
The answer did not come from DNA alone.
Catherine raised her.
Elena gave birth to her and tried to escape.
Marcus fathered her unknowingly.
