Five factories employed more than eight thousand workers. Halcyon’s counterfeit bolts appeared in dozens of structures. Immediate disclosure could have closed plants, frozen contracts, and destroyed pensions.
David claimed he intended a controlled replacement.
Anna discovered the shipments before the schedule was ready.
Claire moved her inspection.
David disabled the temporary brace because he believed a localized failure would destroy the evidence and force the section closed before the federal inspection.
Instead, the east support collapsed.
Eight people died.
“You call eight deaths a miscalculation?” the prosecutor asked.
“I did not expect the full structure to fail.”
“You signed the report saying it was safe.”
“Yes.”
“You removed the emergency brace.”
“Yes.”
“You knew workers remained inside.”
“Yes.”
“Then what part of their deaths was outside your calculation?”
David had no answer that did not become another confession.
The child-abuse evidence followed.
He found Lily with her foster family.
Used a fraudulent order.
Told her Sarah drowned.
Broke her leg when she tried to escape.
Held her down while Pierce recast it.
Placed industrial evidence against injured skin.
Installed the tracker.
Used her future inheritance as collateral.
Kidnapped Sarah.
Threatened Caroline.
Fired a flare near chemical drums.
David claimed Claire controlled the legal system and Catherine controlled medical transfers.
True.
Neither woman forced him to harm Lily.
Lily did not testify in open court.
Her forensic interview, medical evidence, and cast-removal recording were admitted under protective rules. The public did not repeatedly watch her terror.
The jury convicted David of eight counts of murder, kidnapping, aggravated child abuse, fraud, unlawful confinement, attempted destruction of evidence, and conspiracy.
He was acquitted of attempting to murder Claire in the archive. The gunshot struck the ceiling, and prosecutors had not proved he intended to hit her.
He was convicted of assaulting Aaron and threatening Sarah.
David received multiple life sentences.
His personal assets entered restitution.
The lender’s claim against Lily’s Voss inheritance was void because David lacked lawful authority and Halcyon knew the guardianship was fraudulent.
Lily’s future no longer carried his debt.
At sentencing, David described factory jobs preserved after Riverton.
A former steelworker answered through a victim statement.
“You did not preserve our jobs. You preserved a company’s ability to send us beneath unsafe beams.”
Marcus spoke only about Anna.
“My sister was not an unfortunate person standing inside a necessary calculation. She was an engineer who identified danger and was prevented from leaving it.”
Caroline attended.
She did not ask Marcus to mention the missed emergency call.
That part belonged to her later accounting.
David died in prison years afterward. No hidden transfer followed.
The Riverton case did not end with him.
Graham Halden had authorized counterfeit procurement, paid David, financed Grayhaven, and approved legal pressure against witnesses.
Investigators traced him to a coastal medical compound under the identity George Hall.
When officers entered, the compound was empty.
A recorded message played:
“David confused violence with leadership. Claire confused delay with protection. Catherine confused possession with care. I built systems that used all three.”
Behind the speaker stood a wall of active medical profiles.
Thirty-two adults and children remained connected to Halcyon treatment devices.
Graham had linked their medication to his heartbeat monitor.
