Chapter 12 - Walter’s glass

Dad’s action was harder for him to explain.
He claimed he saw me strike Bethany.
Then heard me tell Mom:
“She is my family. You aren’t.”
He became enraged.
He grabbed the nearest object.
Threw it toward the door.
He insisted he aimed at the wall.
The recording made that difficult.
His arm followed my movement.
The glass crossed exactly where my head had been before I turned.
It shattered close enough that fragments struck the back of my jacket.
Rosie was shielded.
No injury.
Dad eventually faced an assault-related charge.
Not attempted murder.
No one could prove he intended to kill me or Rosie.
But throwing a heavy glass toward someone carrying a four-year-old was serious enough without exaggeration.

Mom was not charged for grabbing my shoulder.
Her conduct became relevant to family boundaries, not a criminal prosecution.
