Bethany and Daniel had been having financial problems.
Not bankruptcy.
Not secret millions.
Credit cards.
Online sports betting.
Buy-now-pay-later accounts.
A private loan from my parents.
Approximately $27,000 in combined high-interest debt that Daniel knew about.
Another $11,000 he did not.
Bethany handled most household spending.
Daniel discovered the additional debt four days before the party.
They argued.
Bethany promised nothing else was hidden.
Then on the morning of Mason’s birthday, Daniel noticed she had removed two expensive dresses from her closet.
Sold online, she said.
He believed she was trying to raise cash.
When Rosie accused her of taking Mom’s bracelet, Daniel immediately suspected the accusation might be true.
