Chapter 7 - The bathroom game
According to Rosie, Bethany took her wrist and led her into the guest bathroom.
Not dragged screaming.
No one heard a struggle.
Bethany closed the door.
Asked Rosie whether she was “making up stories again.”
Rosie said no.
Bethany removed the small silicone cups from her purse.
She called them:
“Truth circles.”
Every time Rosie insisted she had seen the bracelet, Bethany pressed another cup against her arm long enough to leave a mark.
Rosie cried.
Bethany told her:
“If you stop lying, we stop playing.”
That was the “joke.”
The cheek injury came later.
Rosie tried to open the bathroom door.
Bethany grabbed her.
Rosie screamed.
Bethany slapped her once.
Then immediately looked frightened by what she had done.
Rosie crawled behind the toilet.
Bethany told her to stay there until she could “act normal.”
Then returned to the party.

That account was horrifying.
It was also specific enough that investigators looked for corroboration rather than simply accepting every detail because a child said it.
