Chapter 23 - Daniel and Mason
Daniel gained primary care of Mason during the family upheaval.
Not because courts automatically punish mothers accused of crimes.
Because Bethany’s restrictions and case circumstances made ordinary parenting arrangements impossible for a period.
Mason was six at the party.
He had seen my punch.
He had seen his grandfather throw the glass.
He had not seen the bathroom.
For months he believed I had started everything.
That was what his eyes showed him.
Daniel eventually told him the age-appropriate truth:
“Uncle Adrian should not have hit Mom. Mom also hurt Rosie before Uncle Adrian came into the room. Grandpa should not have thrown the glass. More than one adult did something wrong.”
Mason asked:
“Who was worst?”
Daniel said:
May you like
“That is not a game we need to play.”
Good answer.
