Chapter 14 - The Doctor Who Never Examined HerDr. Allan Reeves worked at a private clinic twenty minutes from the Bennett home.

According to his records, Sarah had attended four appointments.
She had attended none.
The notes described panic attacks, alcohol misuse, financial paranoia, and hostility toward her husband.
The final entry recommended temporary supervision of Sarah’s financial decisions.
Detective Morales compared the appointment dates with Sarah’s calendar.
On two dates, Sarah had been out of state.
On another, she had attended Emma’s preschool recital.
The fourth occurred while she was speaking at a live charity event.
The medical records were impossible.
Yet they carried a licensed physician’s signature.
Robert contacted the trust’s legal counsel.
Within hours, every incapacity document connected to Dr. Reeves was suspended.
But Sarah understood the deeper danger.
If David had succeeded in making her appear confused after the injury, the false medical history would have supported him.
Margaret would describe months of instability.
David would present himself as the exhausted husband.
Dr. Reeves would confirm a diagnosis.
The forged amendment would place the money under David’s control.
Emma would remain in the house with him.
Sarah looked at her daughter sleeping beneath a hospital blanket.
“What would have happened to Emma?”
No one answered immediately.
That silence terrified her.
Detective Morales spoke at last.
“We found a draft custody petition on David’s laptop.”
The petition claimed Sarah posed a danger to the child.
It requested emergency sole custody for David.
Attached to it were photographs of Sarah sleeping on the sofa, blurred images of wine bottles that belonged to Margaret, and a statement claiming Sarah had threatened to disappear with Emma.
All fabricated.
The filing had not yet been submitted.
It was scheduled for the morning after Sarah’s planned hospitalization.
Sarah felt sick.
David had intended to injure her, drug her, declare her unstable, seize the money, and remove Emma before Sarah could recover.
Robert placed his hand over hers.
“He will never take her.”
Sarah looked toward the door.
“Not if the law sees everything.”
Detective Morales closed the file.
