Inside, investigators found the beneficial-owner documents for the Delaware holding company.
Margaret controlled forty percent.
David controlled sixty.
Sarah was not included.
Emma was listed only as an asset beneficiary to be managed by the company.
The documents reduced the child to a source of future money.
There was also a handwritten agreement.
After Sarah’s incapacity, Margaret would receive the Westerville house, monthly payments, and authority over Emma’s daily care.
In exchange, she would continue supporting David’s claim that Sarah was unstable.
Margaret had not helped her son from blind loyalty.

Detective Morales showed her the agreement during a second interview.
Margaret stared at her own signature.
“David promised to take care of me.”
“You were already living comfortably.”
“Sarah treated me like a guest.”
“It was her home.”
“I am his mother.”
Morales leaned closer.
“And Emma is his daughter. You were willing to traumatize her for a house.”
Margaret’s mouth trembled.
“I would have cared for Emma.”
“You watched her father break her mother’s leg.”
“He was under pressure.”
“You smiled.”
Margaret looked toward the camera in the interview room.
The evidence phone had captured her expression clearly.
Wineglass raised.
Sarah on the floor.
Satisfaction on Margaret’s face.
There was no context capable of making it kind.
At the hospital, Sarah read the agreement.
The betrayal no longer hurt in the same way.
Margaret’s love had always been transactional.
She loved David because his success reflected on her.
She tolerated Emma because the child connected her to wealth.
She hated Sarah because Sarah owned what Margaret wanted her son to control.
Robert asked whether Sarah wished to make a statement about restitution.
“Yes.”

“Emma’s trust.”
“And the rest?”
