Chapter 8 - The Biometric TrapSarah was moved onto a stretcher.

Every shift sent pain through her leg and lower back.
Emma refused to release her hand.
The paramedic allowed the little girl to walk beside the stretcher toward the ambulance.
Before Sarah left the kitchen, Detective Morales approached.
“Your father says there is another security layer.”
Sarah looked toward the emergency phone, which an officer had placed on the table.
Robert explained.
“When I created the inheritance structure, I required every transfer above fifty thousand dollars to include a silent biometric confirmation.”
David stared at the speaker.
“What kind?”
Robert ignored him.
“The account records voice cadence and pressure patterns from the signing device. A copied signature can pass the visible process, but it cannot pass the hidden one.”
Margaret gripped the edge of the table.
David tried to laugh.
“That sounds illegal.”
“It is disclosed in the trust agreement you signed as Sarah’s spouse.”
“I never signed her trust agreement.”
Robert’s voice hardened.
“You signed it six years ago.”
David’s face went blank.
Sarah remembered the document.
A marital acknowledgment her father had required before giving David access to any shared financial platform.
David had called it insulting.
He had signed without reading.
Detective Morales looked toward the printed transfer forms.
“So the bank can identify the device used?”
“Yes.”
“And potentially the speaker present during authorization?”
“Yes.”
Margaret stood.
“This is absurd.”
The detective turned to her.
“Sit down.”
For the first time, Margaret obeyed immediately.
An officer carried David’s work laptop into the kitchen.
Another held Margaret’s tablet.
Both devices would be compared against the bank records.
David looked at Sarah as the stretcher rolled toward the hallway.
“This is your fault.”
Emma stopped walking.
She turned toward her father with tears on her cheeks.
“No. You pushed Mommy.”
The room fell silent.
David looked at his daughter as though she had betrayed him.
Sarah squeezed Emma’s hand.
The ambulance doors waited outside.
