Chapter 22 - David’s New StoryDavid changed his story after learning Margaret had confessed.

He claimed she manipulated him.

Margaret had resented Sarah.

Margaret created the incapacity plan.

Margaret drugged the tea.

Margaret arranged Dr. Reeves.

David admitted moving money but described it as an attempt to protect family assets from his mother’s influence.

Detective Morales listened without reacting.

“You expect us to believe your mother forced you to push Sarah?”

“I lost my balance.”

“The video shows both hands on her blouse.”

“She attacked me.”

“Emma says otherwise.”

“She is four.”

“Four-year-olds can recognize pushing.”

David leaned forward.

“My mother poisoned my marriage.”

Morales placed the handwritten reward agreement on the table.

David’s signature appeared beneath Margaret’s.

He claimed it was forged.

Then the detective played audio from the evidence phone.

David told Sarah she lived in his house.

He ordered her to repeat the accident story.

He panicked when Emma reached the phone.

His voice was unmistakable.

Still, David smiled.

“Words spoken during an argument are not conspiracy.”

Morales produced the bank-box key.

Then the life-insurance documents.

Then the Westerville lease.

Then the remote custody filing.

Then Dr. Reeves’s confession.

The smile faded gradually.

“You built a story for every possible outcome,” Morales said. “Sarah fell accidentally. Sarah was unstable. Sarah overdosed. Sarah required private treatment. Sarah endangered Emma.”

David looked toward the mirrored wall.

“Which story is true?”

He said nothing.

“The only consistent fact,” Morales continued, “is that every version gave you her money.”

David’s jaw clenched.

“You do not understand what it was like being married to her.”

“What was it like?”

“Knowing everything I built still belonged to someone else.”

The statement left the room and entered the official record.

David had finally described the motive without disguise.

He did not want partnership.

He wanted ownership.

👉 David’s attempt to sacrifice Margaret failed, and his own words gave prosecutors the motive they had been waiting for.
