Emma repeated each instruction.
Then Robert asked why the system was necessary.
Sarah’s voice became quiet.
“Because David is getting worse.”
The second practice call occurred one week later.
Emma pressed the button incorrectly during the game and immediately apologized.
Sarah reassured her.
“You are never in trouble for calling when you feel scared.”
These recordings proved the emergency plan existed before the inheritance confrontation.
They also proved Sarah had feared David before the injury.
More importantly, the system logged every time the red button was pressed.
On the night before the assault, someone had tested it at 2:13 a.m.
Sarah and Emma were asleep.
Robert answered, but no one spoke.
The caller disconnected after three seconds.
Phone metadata showed the device had been activated by an adult-sized pressure pattern.
Investigators checked the hidden evidence phone.
It captured David standing beside the emergency device that night.
He pressed the button.
Listened.
Then unplugged it briefly.
He was testing Sarah’s safeguard.
But he made a mistake.
When he reconnected the phone, the backup cellular battery activated automatically.
David believed the system depended on the house line.
It did not.
That was why Emma’s call connected even after he tried to disable the network during the assault.
Sarah watched the footage.
David had known about the red button.
