Chapter 15 - Margaret Breaks FirstMargaret remained at the police station longer than David expected.

Her attorney advised silence.

Margaret ignored him.

She demanded tea.

She complained about the lighting.

She asked repeatedly whether her wineglass had been preserved.

Detective Morales entered with the toxicology report and placed it on the table.

Margaret did not touch it.

“You drugged Sarah.”

“I gave her something to relax.”

“She did not consent.”

“She was becoming hysterical.”

“You told police it was an accident.”

Margaret’s lips tightened.

“David was under enormous pressure.”

“From what?”

“Sarah controlled everything.”

“The money belonged to her.”

Margaret leaned forward.

“A wife does not hoard money while her husband’s company struggles.”

There it was.

Not innocence.

Entitlement.

Morales allowed the silence to expand.

Then she placed Dr. Reeves’s fabricated medical notes beside the toxicology report.

“Did you provide him with the information?”

Margaret’s eyes moved toward the door.

Her attorney interrupted.

“My client will not answer.”

Margaret did anyway.

“Allan only wrote what David told him.”

The attorney closed his eyes.

Morales remained still.

“What did David tell him?”

“That Sarah was unstable.”

“Was she?”

“She was difficult.”

“That was not the question.”

Margaret’s composure cracked.

“You have no idea what she did to my son. She made him feel poor in his own home.”

Morales looked at Margaret’s pearls, designer dress, and expensive watch.

“Your son lived in a house purchased by Sarah.”

“He improved it.”

“With her money.”

Margaret struck the table.

“He deserved more!”

The outburst echoed through the room.

Morales waited.

Margaret realized too late how much she had revealed.

Then the detective showed her a photograph of Emma beside the emergency phone.

“Your granddaughter watched everything.”

Margaret looked away.

“If David goes down, you will too,” Morales said. “Unless you tell us exactly what he planned.”

For the first time, Margaret began to cry.

Not for Sarah.

Not for Emma.

May you like

For herself.

👉 Margaret was finally ready to betray David, but the truth she offered would make the kitchen attack look almost merciful.
