Chapter 16 - Thirty DaysMargaret said the plan required thirty days.

Sarah had to remain medically impaired for one month.
During that period, David would activate the incapacity clause, move the inheritance, control Emma’s trust, and petition for custody.
The sedative would make Sarah appear confused during examinations.
Dr. Reeves would confirm a preexisting condition.
Margaret would testify that Sarah had become increasingly unstable.
David would appear patient and concerned.
But the kitchen confrontation happened too soon.
Sarah discovered the missing transfer before David had finished preparing the medical records.
“He panicked,” Margaret said.
Detective Morales stared at her.
“He broke Sarah’s leg because he panicked?”
Margaret wiped her eyes.
“He only meant to make her stay in bed.”
The detective’s expression hardened.
“And if she refused?”
Margaret looked down.
There had been another plan.
A bottle of stronger medication hidden inside David’s car.
Enough to cause unconsciousness.
He intended to place Sarah in bed after the injury and tell paramedics she had taken pills during an emotional crisis.
If she woke, she would appear disoriented.
If she did not, David would claim an accidental overdose.
Margaret insisted she had not known he purchased the stronger medication.
Morales did not believe her.
“Why were you in the kitchen?”
“To support him.”
“While he assaulted his wife?”
“To make sure Sarah understood.”
“Understood what?”
Margaret’s face became strangely calm.
“That fighting him would cost her Emma.”
At the hospital, Sarah received the interview summary.
She read the sentence twice.
David had planned to use Emma as leverage after the injury.
Not merely in court.
Immediately.
He intended to take the child away while Sarah lay sedated and unable to object.
Sarah looked toward Emma drawing beside Robert.
The little girl had saved her mother with two fingers and a red button.
Without that signal, Sarah might have awakened alone, discredited, and legally powerless.
Or she might not have awakened at all.
Sarah closed the report.
“When can I speak to the prosecutor?”
Robert studied her face.
“You need rest.”

“I need to make sure Emma is safe.”
👉 Margaret exposed the thirty-day plan, but David had one final document designed to make Emma disappear before Sarah could stop him.
